PREP ROUNDUP: Crater boys place second in SOC tourney

EAGLE POINT — Crater sophomore Marcus Idiart finished fourth in the individual race for medalist and helped the Comets’ boys golf team place second Thursday in Southern Oregon Conference tournament action at Eagle Point Golf Club.

Idiart shot a 41 on the front nine and 40 on the back to post an 81, finishing five strokes off the standard set by medalist Oliver Ausland of Grants Pass (76).

With Ashton Idiart carding an 83, Ben Idiart finishing with an 85 and Tucker Laws at 87, the Comets were able to post a total team score of 336 to finish nine shots behind Grants Pass.

North Medford’s Dylan Ivens posted an 82 to finish fifth overall, and the Black Tornado placed fourth as a team.

South Medford’s boys team wound up third, with Connor Couch (83) and Blake Boutwell (84) leading the charge at seventh and ninth, respectively.

Ashland’s Toby Barnes carded an 85 to lead his team.

On the girls side, Grants Pass was the lone school to field a complete team, with Kye Daywitt second after posting an 88 and Josie Daywitt finishing fourth (94).

Ashland’s Leila Bunker tied for fifth in the individual competition with a 99.

Grace Norton paced South Medford with a 106.

Roseburg’s Lauren Sandfort was the girls medalist thanks to her 78.

ROSEBURG 18, GRANTS PASS 2: At Grants Pass, Troy Osborne went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI and Dante Haven also drove in a run for Grants Pass but Roseburg used an 11-0 surge to break the game open.

Grants Pass (6-7) led 1-0 through one inning but Roseburg (10-4) took charge from there, scoring five runs in the second inning, two in the third and four in the fourth to build a 10-run cushion.

Logan Klopfenstein was 3-for-5 with two runs and five RBIs and the Indians got a pair of RBIs from five other players in the runaway win.

Softball

ROSEBURG 14, GRANTS PASS 5: At Grants Pass, Shayelynn Totten was 2-for-3 and Grants Pass got RBI efforts from Alexa Medley and Sara Martin but nine erorrs hindered the Cavers (8-5) in SOC play.

Nevaeh Williams, Kami Gibson and Jazmyn Murphy each had two hits and two RBIs for Roseburg (11-3), which led 6-5 through four innings but broke the game open with three runs in the fifth and five in the seventh.
