PREP ROUNDUP: Comets crush North in SOC dual

Crater won all but one of the contested matches Wednesday night, scoring an impressive 69-6 win over North Medford in a Southern Oregon Conference wrestling dual at North Medford High.

Ryan Hill at 138 pounds and Kellen Kerrigan at 145 picked up two of the top wins for the Comets, with Hill scoring a 7-3 decision over Jace Garibay and Kerrigan pinning Alex Silva in 3 minutes, 20 seconds.

Other solid efforts were turned in by Colton Bryant (132), Matthew Bolanos (152), Kabb Christensen (182) and Jimmy Jordahl (220).

Bryant pinned Calvin Chan in 1:30, while Bolanos pinned Noah Allen in 1:20, Christensen pinned Brett Rucker in 1:40 and Jordahl pinned Jeremiah Jackson in 1:10.

North Medford scored its lone win in the last match of the night, with heavyweight Kael Brown pinning Gabriel Williams in 2:50.

GRANTS PASS 57, SOUTH MEDFORD 18: At Grants Pass, South Medford started well with two forfeit wins and a pin by Brayden Ostvik at 120 pounds, but it was all Grants Pass after that in the Southern Oregon Conference clash.

Ostvik pinned Mark Astry in 42 seconds to pace the Panthers, who saw Linsey Siagian (106) and Cameron Johnson (113) receive forfeits.

Dredan Myers of Grants Pass scored a 3-1 decision over Lucas Rivera at 182 in the closest match of the night.

CRATER 69, GRANTS PASS 34: At Central Point, Crater senior Hunter Chubb tallied 13 of his game-high 23 points in the first quarter to help the Comets double up Grants Pass.

Crater (3-1) knocked down 12 3-pointers and built a 41-19 lead by halftime.

Chubb added six assists and contributed five 3-pointers, while Caden Lasater had seven points, seven steals and three assists. Colton Vranes and Tate Broesder each had three assists and five points.

Mason Bennett had nine points to lead the Cavemen (1-3).

KLAMATH UNION 72, PHOENIX 37: At Phoenix, freshman Dylan Harper scored a team-high 15 points for Phoenix but a second-quarter lull proved too much to overcome in Skyline Conference play.

Sophomore Jack Monroe added eight points for the Pirates (0-3), who were outscored 23-5 in the second quarter to fall behind 36-12 by halftime.

Jacob Cook had 18 points and Klamath Union (3-0) got 14 apiece from Pablo Macias and Garrett Short.

CASCADE CHRISTIAN 69, TRINITY LUTHERAN 50: Cascade Christian freshman Austin Maurer posted 18 points and eight rebounds, and seniors Levi Marincus (13) and Morgan Law (12) also reached double figures in scoring to lead the host Challengers in a late addition to the schedule for both teams.

Matt McPheeters added nine points for Class 3A Cascade Christian (4-0), which used a 27-11 run in the second quarter to build a comfortable 44-21 lead at halftime.

Trinity Lutheran (2-2), a 1A school in Bend, received 31 points from Scooty Gilbert.

Senior guard Josh Biever had 22 of his game-high 27 points for Central Christian (1-2) in the first half, when the Tigers used a 7-0 run late to go into the break up 31-24.

PHOENIX 41, KLAMATH UNION 29: At Phoenix, senior Josie Bolstad recorded a double-double with a game-high 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead Phoenix (4-1).

Phoenix sophomore Morgan James had 10 points and recorded a team-high four steals, while senior Kassandra Skiff added seven points.

Pirates senior Lola Lumbreras hit both of her team’s 3-pointers and put forward a strong game defensively.

Junior Cassidy Mahan scored 10 points to lead Klamath Union (2-1).
