Pete Herzog at the Grass Shack
Pete Herzog plays down-home blues that hark back to his youth spent on the back porch of his family's country home picking guitar.
Herzog manages to tell a story with one instrument, three chords and 12 bars while incorporating flat-picking, open-tuning and slide-style techniques to produce his signature sound. His rural, roots music contains elements of blues, bluegrass, jug band and Hawaiian styles.
The Rogue Valley singer and songwriter will perform at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3., at Grass Shack Hawaiian Cafe, 205 Fern Valley Road, Phoenix.
Last summer, Herzog released his second album, a blues opera titled "Steel Guitar." The 22-song album follows a guitar as it is passed from owner to owner and musician to musician.
