Sollinger leads Grizzlies past St. Mary's

MEDFORD — Jayd Sollinger scored 15 points and Ashland pulled away from the get-go for a 51-29 victory over St. Mary’s in the first round of the Dutch Bros Christmas Classic girls basketball tournament at Cascade Christian High School Thursday.

The Grizzlies improved to 5-1 and will next meet Midwestern League rival Crater in the quarterfinals today at 3 p.m.

The Crusaders dropped to 1-9.

Ashland scored 20 second-period points and led 28-12 at halftime. Sollinger and Kirsten Morgan each scored six points in the second.

Sollinger added six rebounds and four steals for the Grizzlies, and Anna Barnes had 10 points and six rebounds.

Morgan and Aubrey Losinski checked in with 10 points apiece for Ashland.

St. Mary’s was led by Ryker Rothfus, who scored nine of her 20 points in the fourth quarter.
