Ashland area homicide under investigation
A 30-year-old Ashland man is in the Jackson County Jail following a homicide that occurred before dawn Wednesday outside Ashland city limits.
Auriel Zipher Scattergood, 30, of Ashland, was arrested on suspicion of murder, second-degree assault and aggravated animal abuse, according to a press release from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon 911 dispatchers received a homicide report at 2:14 a.m. Wednesday at an address on Eagle Mill Road near Ashland, according to the sheriff’s office.
The vicitim’s identity and manner of death were not immediately released by police.
Eagle Mill Road was closed Wednesday morning between the intersections of North Valley View and Butler Creek roads, according to Jackson County Roads, and officials asked motorists to use other routes. Officials expected the road to reopen by about noon.
