Raiders’ winning streak vs. OIT comes to an end
KLAMATH FALLS — The Southern Oregon volleyball team's head-to-head winning streak against Oregon Tech ended at 34 on Tuesday night with a 25-22, 25-23, 25-11 decision in Cascade Conference play at Danny Miles Court.
Owls hitter Nicole Reyes had 11 kills, seven digs and three service aces as the Raiders were haunted by eight service-reception errors on the night.
They struggled to close sets, having tied the first one 21-21 and led the second 22-20. In the latter, after Shelby Young's kill and back-to-back service aces from Savannah Schwindt gave them the two-point lead, they surrendered OIT's last five points on a variety of errors.
The Owls (9-1 overall, 5-0 CCC) never trailed the third set after scoring the first three points on an attacking error, a setting error and a service ace.
It was their first win against the Raiders (7-3, 2-3) since 2005.
Young, who missed last weekend's setbacks due to injury, returned to lead the Raiders with 10 kills on 18 attacks. Hannah Stadstad had seven kills, and Hannah Randall added 14 aces.
The Owls succeeded in shutting down CCC kills leader Hailey Van Well, who was limited to a season-low three kills.
The Raiders will remain on the road this weekend, playing Friday at Corban and Saturday at Bushnell.
