SOU’s Allen makes NAIA all-academic team
ASHLAND — Junior guard Tez Allen, a three-year starter for Southern Oregon, was named Thursday to the NAIA Academic All-District 4 team as nominated and selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Allen was among just 23 men’s basketball players across the NAIA to earn the honor, and was joined in District 4 by Eastern Oregon’s Max McCullough, Embry-Riddle’s Kaden Herbert and Lewis-Clark State’s Hodges Bailey and Trystan Bradley.
The annual team is designed to recognize the top student-athletes in the country for a combination of their academic and athletic success. NAIA Academic All-Americans will be announced later this month.
A 6-foot-5 product of Carson City, Nevada, Allen is a healthcare administration major with a cumulative 3.78 GPA.
On the court, he’s averaged 12.9 points, 8.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.7 steals in nine games this spring. He’s shooting a career-best 47 percent (20 of 43) from 3-point range and has three double-doubles.
Allen has started 69 of SOU’s 70 games since debuting as a redshirt freshman in 2018-19. On last season’s 24-7 team that finished at No. 8 in the NAIA rankings, he was the only player in the CCC to rank among the top 12 in assists, rebounds and steals.
Allen and the Raiders will wrap up their brief spring schedule today and Saturday at Eastern Oregon.
